Installing and Using HughesNet Tools


Introduction:

This article describes the download and installation process for HughesNet Tools. HughesNet Tools provides diagnostic alerts that pro-actively monitor your system for certain error conditions.  A pop-up alert is displayed when a problem exists with either your Internet connection or your email account. Procedure/Solution:

Notes:

  • HughesNet Tools is only available for DW7000, HN7000S, and DW6000.
  • HughesNet Tools is now compatible with PC's running Microsoft Vista.
  • If you are using HughesNet Tools on Vista Operating Systems, you will be asked to upgrade to a new unified client in order for your system to gather telemetry data. Beginning Monday, December 10, 2007, you will see a pop-up notifying you that an update is available.
    • Click Download Now to upgrade.
  • If a you do not have Vista and you click on the X in the upper right corner of the pop-up, HughesNet Tools will continue to gather telemetry data.
    The pop-up will continue to be displayed until you upgrade.

To download HughesNet Tools:

  1. Browse to http://tools.myhughesnet.com
  2. Click Install Now.
  3. The application will verify that HughesNet Tools has not been installed.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. Depending on your security settings, you may see a Security Warning dialog box. If the pop-up screen appears, click Run to continue the installation.
  6. A File Download pop-up warning will be displayed. Click Open.
  7. Read the licensing agreement. Click Accept.
    If you are unwilling to accept the licensing agreement, click Decline to end the download process.
     
  8. Choose the download location.  The default location is suggested.
    If an alternate location is desired, click Browse and select the new location.
  9. Click Next.

  10. Register your copy of HughesNet Tools. All fields are mandatory.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Verify that you have internet connectivity.
  13. Click Next.
  14. The required files will download.
  15. When the download is complete (~ 3 minutes), click Finish.

    The HughesNet Tools application will launch.
  16. Installation has now been successfully completed. You can now access HughesNet Tools by clicking the HughesNet Tools icon located in your system tray.
HughesNet Tools will proactively monitor your Internet connection and your email account. A pop-up alert will be displayed when a error condition is detected.
